If you have never visited the playgrounds behind the Lyle Torrant Center, then you are in for a treat. Featuring two separate fenced-in playgrounds, you will truly find something for everyone. The first playground is toddler-friendly with smaller climbers, other equipment, and plenty of fenced-in space to wander. The true gem, however, is the fully accessible and ADA-compliant playground. By now, you know there are a lot of places in Jackson County that we love, but the Lyle Torrant Center Playgrounds just might be our favorite new spot to play. Keep reading to see why.
Editor’s Note: Due to year-round school programs, these playgrounds are open to the public after 4 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.

Why we love it: Fully accessible equipment, shade cover over the climber, fun and interesting equipment, and something for all ages and abilities, and yes – TWO playgrounds!
Features: Too many to name – check out the photo galleries below! We have split them into the “Toddler Playground” gallery and the “Accessible Playground” Gallery.
“Big’s Review”: This is a great playground to play on. It is fully accessible. You should do both ziplines. Bring a few people so you can do the blue merry-go-round.
Elizabeth’s Suggestion: This playground tends to get lots of sun all day long – so slather on the sunscreen and bring some water bottles along! I also suggest keeping a towel in your trunk to dry off any water spots from the night before.
Toddler Approved? Yes
Stroller friendly? Yes
Big Kid Approved? Yes
Full Sun or Shade? Full Sun, but the climber has a shade cover over it.
Parking? There is ample parking on both sides of the building. The playgrounds are a short walk from either parking lot.
Hours: Due to year-round school programs, these playgrounds are open to the public after 4 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.
Closing Review: Fair warning: once you visit, your kids will ask you over and over when you will return. Plan ahead since there are no bathrooms available (but there are restaurants close by in case of bathroom emergency), pack some snacks, water, and sunscreen, and be prepared for hours of playground fun!
