It is time to deck the halls because December 1 is National Christmas Lights Day! We here at Wonder and Wander – Jackson love Christmas lights and are happy to have so many wonderful displays through Jackson County. As a kid, it was a family tradition to pile in the minivan and drive through our small-town to view the Christmas lights and “Ooh” and “Aah” over the displays. As an adult, I’ve tried this with my family, and sometimes we find some awesome displays, and sometimes we strike out.

Enter: Nite Lites – A Drive-Thru Christmas Light Show!

I still fondly remember the first time my family went through the Nite Lites holiday display. Held at that time at the Jackson County Fairgrounds, I was dazzled by the twinkling lights, whimsical displays, and general holiday ambiance. Now held at Michigan International Speedway, Nite Lites is a can’t miss holiday destination that has become a tradition for many Michigan families.

Touted as “Michigan’s largest Christmas light display”, Nite Lites features over 6 miles of light displays. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, Nite Lites is not doing any in-person portions this year – only drive-thru viewing!. From animals to tunnels and even a “Twelve Days of Christmas” display, Nite Lites is sure to make your holidays glow.

We are excited to announce that Night Lites has provided Wonder and Wander – Jackson with four free passes to giveaway! Winners must be able to visit the display during the 2021 season, which runs from November 25-December 31. (Editor’s note: we love visiting during the weeknights as there is less traffic than the heavily visited weekends!)

To enter for your chance to win, you must leave a comment on this blog post (scroll to the bottom of this post to find the comment box). In your comment, you must tell us your favorite holiday tradition! Please be sure to fill out your name, e-mail address, and put your favorite holiday tradition in the comment box (this way we’ll have a way to contact you if you win!)

This giveaway is open thru December 7 at 8:00 p.m. EST with winners being contacted via e-mail that evening. Winners must respond by e-mail within 24 hours to claim their prize, or a new winner will be selected.

Wishing you all good luck, and a magical holiday season (and stay tuned – we’ll be sharing a video from our visit to this wonderful display soon!).

Nite Lites runs from November 25 to December 31 at Michigan International Speedway. You can find more information about Nite Lites at http://www.nitelitesshow.com/.

Such a generous giveaway! Thank you! My favorite tradition tends to change often but I enjoy decorating the tree with my kiddos. Hearing their excited giggles and, “ooohs and ahhhs,” as they gently unwrap our ornaments and find the perfect place to hang it on the tree warms my heart. We usually make an afternoon of it and put on Christmas music. Then once the tree is decorated we flip on the lights and dance in the living room.

We have Christmas countdown figurines that are hidden each day (12/1-12/25) with silly clues left in stockings. A nice little advent chocolate is a fun way to celebrate finding a figurine! 🎄❤️

My favorite holiday tradition is the ornament exchange I do with my husband. We’ve been doing it since 2005. We now do it with my daughter who is 3. It’s the perfect way to fill up our tree and I love pulling out each ornament and remembering where we were at that stage in our lives.

Every year we load up our 4 kids and family and friends in our huge van and head to the Nite Lites! At the end where the 12 days of Christmas are represented we play the Muppets version and sing through the whole thing laughing the entire time.

My favorite tradition is spending the month of December doing different things with my kiddos. One day we may decorate Christmas cookies, watch Christmas movies, drive around looking at lights, listening to Christmas carols. Every day it’s something new. We Sadly never went to see the nite lights yet and I think the kids would love it. 😊

We kick off the holiday season with Black Friday, turn the radio to 24 hour Christmas music, and sing along between shops. That weekend, we pick a Christmas movie to watch as a family.

We also drive around to see lights, our favorites being any that go along to music.

We have a huge extended family baking party over a long weekend and play cards.

We always drive through the Nite Lites display at least once every year, too. I have a 12 year old who looks forward to it and a 1. 5 year old who is starting to see the magic of Christmas!

My favorite holiday tradition is Christmas morning breakfast. For as long as I can remember (and in the family for several generations), we would eat Eggs Goldenrod in the morning before opening presents. It was always such a fun time getting together with family around the table.
