Hike a Trail!

Hiking is one of my favorite things to do in Jackson County (although I just might say that about every item on the Summer Fun Bucket List.). For me, it’s the quintessential adventure filled with opportunities to explore nature, take in the beauty of my surroundings, and get some great physical activity. It’s also a fantastic way to encourage “Big” to have some screen-free time.

Here’s the great news for those of you who live in Jackson County (or those of you planning to visit the area) — there are so many excellent hiking locations to choose from! While having so many options offers a lot of variety, I know this can be overwhelming when trying to choose where the perfect spot. So, over the next two months here on the Adventure Blog, I’m going to do a deep dive into my top five kid-friendly hiking locations.

For those of you trying to plan your adventures now, you can find the blog schedule for my top five kid-friendly hiking locations in Jackson County at the bottom of this post.

Now that those details are out of the way, let’s jump into the first location.

Family Walk Days
Family Walk Days is a free program presented by the City of Jackson Parks and Recreation Department. Participants meet at the Ella Sharp Park Soccer fields to register at 6:30 p.m., with the walk beginning at 7 p.m. This program offers a three-mile walk through the scenic Ella Sharp Park, and even offers prizes to participants.

Family Walk Days is offered on specific days (see the image below) and will be a great activity for children (and grown-ups) of all ages. This program makes the top five list here at Wonder and Wander because it offers participants an original adventure, a chance to explore a beautiful space, and the opportunity to connect with new people.

Ella Sharp Park is located at 2800 Fourth St, Jackson, MI 49203.
