We discovered Ahrens Park thanks to a tip from a Wonder and Wander follower. Nestled in Brooklyn near the Sharonville State Wildlife Management Area, we found what might be the most toddler-friendly park in Jackson County. Keep reading to learn more about this local gem!
Editor’s Note: We originally shared this park in a blog post in 2021, and are thrilled to pull it from the archives to share it with you again. This park is still one of our favorite parks to visit with toddlers!
Ahrens Park Details
Location Name: Ahrens Park
Address: 6200 Norvell Rd, Brooklyn, MI 49230
Why we love it: The equipment is perfect for toddlers, and there is plenty of space to roam.
Features: Climber with slides, three regular swings, and one infant swing, standing see-saw, space shuttle, and horse rockers, portable bathroom, pavilion with tables, baseball field, well pump, and lots of green space
“Big’s Review”: This is a nice small park and it’s really fun. It’s fun to go down the slides, bump around in the rocket and the horse, and jump around in the standing see-saw.
Elizabeth’s Suggestion: Norvell Road is just a few minutes away from Swain Memorial Park. Why not make it an afternoon and play at both?
Toddler Approved? Definitely.
Stroller friendly? Yes
Big Kid Approved? This park is better suited to toddlers and young children
Full Sun or Shade? Some of each
Restroom? Yes, a portable one
Parking? Ample parking in the lot beside the park

Closing Review: I was excited to find this park because it is the perfect place for Little to play. There’s just enough equipment to make it fun, and the climber is not too tall or intimidating. Even though this park is best suited to younger children, Big still had fun and found ways to entertain himself while visiting. The park’s remote location makes it a quiet but beautiful place to play!
