I first heard that dinosaurs were on their way to the Ella Sharp Museum back in July at the Learning Fair. It might be an understatement to say that my four-year-old and I were excited (big dino lovers in this household). At one point, we even showed up a week early (the exhibit is officially open now, so no one else has to worry about that happening!) But, let me tell you, Dinosaur Safari was worth the wait and is such a gem to have in Jackson – especially on these gloomy, gray winter days.

The Ella Sharp Museum was already the perfect place to spend a few hours with your kiddos, offering numerous activities for littles and beautiful art for all ages to enjoy- but these dinosaurs will definitely make your visit next level. Trust me when I say you’ll want to plan a visit asap. Keep reading for all of the Dinosaur Safari details!

Dinosaur Safari Details

Exhibit: Dinosaur Safari (January 14 – May 14, 2023)

Address: 3225 4th Street, Jackson, Michigan

Why we love it: This exhibit has something for everyone. My children are 2, 4, and 9, and they all found something to love. Both my husband and I stayed equally entertained. Showcasing seven animatronic dinosaurs (that are quite large), multiple hands-on sensory stations that give kids the chance to discover bones and fossils themselves, climbing areas (which include a very cool Jeep & a sweet little dino), a whole lot of science, and a lot of opportunities to let imaginations soar.

The Ella Sharp Museum also has other programs running on the theme that can be found on their website, including a Toddler Tour and Planetarium show which runs through January.

Toddler Approved: Absolutely. I do want to add a note that there are a lot of lights and the animatronic dinosaurs do make noise. My youngest was a little alarmed at first.

Stroller Friendly: Yes, however, during busy times it might be difficult to navigate through crowds in narrow areas.

Big Kid Approved: Yes. Mine especially enjoyed all of the fossils on display.

Closing Review: I feel so lucky that Dinosaur Safari has come to Ella Sharp at the same time as the snow. This is the perfect place to spend a cold day. There is ample room for kids to roam and so much for them to explore. The gallery is warm, clean & easy to navigate. There is something for everyone to enjoy here & honestly, the experience is seriously just SO cool! I am so excited to have something like this in Jackson.

I want to also note that the staff is also the kindest group of people- especially Ken (the experience manager who had to break the news to me that I showed up a week early. You can find him at the front desk, being as welcoming as humanly possible).
